It is with profound sadness, we announce the passing of Winefred Elnor Brown who fondly went by the name Faye. Born in San Antonio, Texas, "Under the Stars", on October 13, 1945, she passed away at St. David's Hospital Austin South and was given her angel's wings on March 22, 2024, at 5:38 P.M. with her son, James, at her side, after a long battle with cancer. Her son stayed by her side the ten days she was there.
A woman of strong faith, Faye showed her strength throughout her battle with ovarian and lung cancer. She never gave up hope of being cured. Since her diagnosis in late 2021, her last years of life were a living testimony of her unwavering faith and trust in God.
For Faye, music was a source of comfort and joy. Of all the musicians she admired, none held a special place in her heart quite like Conway Twitty. His melodies resonated with her since she was a teenager, providing a soundtrack to her life and leaving her with melodies that always brought a smile to her face.
Faye also loved watching cooking shows. She had her television always up loud with these shows, and when she would go to doctor appointments, her animals enjoyed listening to them, as well.
She leaves behind her precious eight dogs and five cats she shared with her dearly departed daughter, April Brown, and a legacy of love and faith, a torch now carried by her beloved daughter-in-law, Diane Shands and niece, Jessie Jo Shands. Diane and Jessie will always remember Faye’s strength, faith, and her unique ability to find joy in the simple things of life. Despite her loss, Faye's spirit, shoulder-to-lean-on, and love will continue to live on through Diane and Jessie. Diane and Faye shared the love of their family tree together, too, along with Jessie. Diane and Jessie will not allow her memory to be forgotten.
Winefred Brown is survived by her son, James Shands, her daughter-in-law, Diane Shands, her brother, Carl Shands, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandson, Chris Pablo, Chad and CJ Shands, Michaela Garcia, Chloe McKenzie, Caden Pablo, Faith McLemore, Liliana Pablo, Jake Kane, Cole Kane, Annamarie Garcia and Esai Garcia, nieces and nephews, Jessie Shands and Alvin Fryer, Glenn and Julia Gonzales, Virginia and Ernest Gutiérrez, Melissa Shockley, and her long-lost son, Eric Smith (adopted), and long-lost grandson, Casey James Brown, whom she and daughter, April Blocker, tried so hard to find, and her best friend since childhood, Doris Barton, who shared so many memories with Faye. We want to thank the Brown family for the generosity of placing Winefred and her daughter, April, at the cemetery their Brown's are resting.
Faye is preceded in death by her parents, Walter Mason and Winefred Elnora Shands, her siblings, Minnie McGill, Sonny, William, Joe Shands and nephew, Arthur McGill, and son, Lester Jr., and daughter, April Sue Blocker, her husband, Harold Clark and ex-husband, Lester Brown.
As we bid farewell to Faye, we do so with a heavy heart, but also with the comfort of knowing that she now rests in eternal peace. Her life, her faith, and her love will forever echo in our hearts, our memories, and our faith. Rest in peace, dear Faye. You will never be forgotten.
