William Alan Jaeger

February 1, 1943 — July 7, 2020

William Alan Jaeger, 77, of Bastrop, TX, passed away on July 7, 2020 at his home in Tahitian Village. William (Alan to all who know him) was born in West Palm Beach, FL to William Charles Jaeger, Jr. (Bill) and Ethel Marguerite Simmons (Marguerite) on February 1, 1943. Alan grew up in Long Beach, NY. Shortly after graduating high school, Alan took up a job in the mailroom at IBM. By the end of his 28 year career with them, he was running a team developing operating systems for both professional and personal computers. His first wife, Donna Barbara Joselson, gave birth to twin sons William Eric Jaeger and Joshua Matthew Jaeger.

After his long career with IBM, Alan continued to aid people and organizations through contributions of his time, skills, money, and even his blood. Alan was an avid bird watcher. Whether sitting on his back porch at home or in a remote, exotic location, you could bet that Alan would have a pair of binoculars and a field guide.

While neither his first nor second marriage lasted, Alan finally found his true love with his third attempt. On December 28, 1998, Alan Jaeger married Vera Alma Preston. Alan and Vera fully enjoyed all 22 years that they were married. They travelled often and extensively. Cruises were their favored method of visiting new places, but they always had time to visit their friends and family that were scattered across the United States. Alan is survived by his wife Dr. Vera Alma Preston-Jaeger, sons William Eric Jaeger and Joshua Matthew Jaeger, step son Mark Wesley Callahan, grandsons Alexander Mateo Jaeger and Sebastian Nicolas Jaeger, step grandsons Connor Callahan and Justin Callahan.
