Tommy Derrell Odom, 67, of Bastrop, Texas, went home to be with Jesus on January 18, 2020, in the town of Smithville, camping at the river. Tommy was born in Breckenridge, Texas, to Bernard L. and Luella Mae Odom, on April 5, 1952. He graduated from Cooper High School, in Abilene, Texas, in 1970. He married Linda Sue Tomlinson on May 24, 1974, in Odessa, Texas. Tommy was a veteran in the Vietnam War and served in the Army. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star Medal, 2 overseas Service Bars, Vietnam Service Medal and W2 Campaign Stars. Tommy worked overseas in the oilfield for 43 years. He worked for Maersk Drilling Co. for 31 years and Wood International for 12 years. His favorite country to work in was Egypt. He loved working with the Egyptians. They worked hard for him and were like family. Tommy enjoyed everything that involved his grandkids. He loved taking them anywhere they wanted to go and do anything they wanted to do. He was their rock and their “go to” person when they had something that had to be fixed. Tommy is survived by his spouse, Linda, his children, Derrell “Shane” and Cory Wayne, Traci, spouse of Cory, which he loved like a daughter, Jennifer Nicole and Shelby Daniel. His brothers, Jimmy Dewain and spouse Linda Jean and Vernon “Buddy” and his seven grandchildren, Kaleb, Kourtney, Braxton, Kash, Morgan, Trent of Bastrop and Jesi Irvin from Arkansas. Tommy is preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Luella Mae, his brother, Daniel Leon, and his sister, Patricia Annette. Burial will be at Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas with Military honors. We will be having a Memorial/Celebration at a later date. Memorials may be given to: Homes For Our Troops; Salvation Army; Operation Homefront I want to extend my sincere thanks to all who have sent prayers and comforting words for me and the family. The Lord has given us the peace and comfort that we have needed during this time.
