Thomas Lee Mcmanus

December 19, 1942 — December 10, 2021

Thomas Lee McManus, 78, was born as an early Christmas gift to his parents on December 19, 1942 in Port Jervis, NY. On December 10, 2021 we lost a husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, USAF veteran and the McManus family patriarch. With strength and courage, our family’s hero fought a long battle with COPD.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Esperanza (Hope), three children: Carol Aceituno (Jorge), John McManus (Denise), and Mary Purcell (Wesley). Brother and Sisters: James McManus (Gretchen), Joyce White (Richard) and Mary McManus. Thomas was loved in life by twelve grandchildren; Leticia Sierra-Fuentes (Ronald), Marcus Sierra (preceded), Alexis Galindo (AJ), Lorraine Gonzales, Nicole McManus, Kimberly Sierra, Christopher Gonzales, Justin McManus (Aubrey), Casey Garcia (Morgan), Grace Beknal, Clayton Purcell (Reghann) and Amanda Purcell. He was blessed with twelve great grandchildren.

Thomas grew up in Port Jervis, New York and graduated from Port Jervis High School. He  believed in hard work, which his mother Ruth McManus taught him. He retired from many jobs because he loved to be productive. He traveled and lived in many countries while serving in the USAF for 22 years. His discipline and patriotism were learned in the Air Force. His second career was as a diesel mechanic, where he taught his talent to his son, John. After his second retirement, he went to the VA financial division in Austin, Texas to work alongside his first grandchild, Leticia. After retiring from the VA, he opened a small engine repair business at home. Thomas enjoyed working in his son’s mechanic shop which is located next to their homes in Cedar Creek, Texas.

Thomas’ passions were anything mechanical, managing anything, reading, bowling, completing puzzles with his wife, and fishing.

Viewing will be held this Thursday, December 16 from 4-6pm at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday, December 17 11am, (brief viewing 30 minutes prior to service) at Rosanky Baptist Church.
