Sully Carl Haywood Sr. was born in Bastrop, Texas on December 1963 and his sunset was August 30, 2024. He was the seventh child born to Winnie Ruth (Kanada) and Ruben Haywood. He confessed his belief in Christ, was baptized, and became a member of the Friendship Bible Baptist Church. Sully attended Bastrop Primary Elementary School a graduated from Bastrop High School. He mainly worked as a plumber's assistant and often helped family and friends with their plumbing issues. He also worked for the City of Austin and Nixon.
Sully suffered with asthma all of his life. Each of his siblings has story to share about how hard the attacks would be, but he never let it keep him from being a kid and trying to keep up with his sisters and brothers. As a child and teenager he loved to play baseball. He was small a child, but had an excellent pitching arm. He was a left handed pitcher. In fact, as a child, his cousin Charles Williams gave him the nickname "Chunk Haywood" - for his accuracy when chunking rocks - which stuck as a nickname that the family used at times. As an adult, Sully enjoy hunting and fishing with family and friends - and to be honest, with anyone - scratch-off lottery tickets, watching football with the regular group in his brother-in law, Curtis Moore's man cave; especially when the 49ers were playing. He was a huge Niners fan. His skill with a weed-eater was appreciated by anyone that worked with him cutting grass - always would weed-eat a wide path and didn't miss any grass, making easy for the person using the mower. Sully had a special relationship that he cherished with his sister, Linda. Almost every morning after he could no longer work, he could be found at her house - early in the morning. And if he wasn't physically there, they would talk by phone.
Sully would always let you know when one of his children and their children had visited or called him - it meant so much to him and it lift his spirits.
Sully loved his Mama and Daddy, his children: LaQuisha Haywood, Sully Haywood, Jr., Christopher Harrell, and Nicholas Haywood, grandchildren, and each of his sisters and brothers.
A special thanks is given to Joyce Williams, who he called 'Mama Joyce' and her son Henry 'Tilley' McBride Jr., who he thought of as a brother. Sully loved them and the family can't find words to express their gratitude to each of them.
He had life-long friends in, Mario Flores, brother-in-law Curtis Moore and cousins, Jimmy Kanada, Marvin Kanada, Willie Thomas and Charles Williams. He shared many good times with them.
Sully was proceeded in death by his parents, Winnie and Ruben Haywood.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children, LaQuisha Haywood (Mister) of San Antonio, Sully Haywood Jr. (Ronesha), and Christopher Harrell (Payne) both of Bastrop Texas, and Nicholas Haywood of Smithville, Texas; his grandchildren, Payten Harrell, Audree Haywood, Ava Hughes, Kaleigh Haywood, and Nicholas Haywood Jr.; brothers, Ronnie Haywood (Marilyn) and Larry Haywood (Lettie) of Bastrop, Texas, Ruben Haywood and Michael Haywood (Carolina) of Smithville, Texas; sisters, Iris Lindley of Smithville Texas, Wanda Haywood (Larry) and Linda Moore (Curtis) of Bastrop Texas, ShaRon Criss (Alonzo) of Arlington Texas, and LaKendra Wright of Austin, Texas. Sully is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces/nephews, and great-great-nieces/nephews.
