Stephen Anthony Townes, 64, of Cedar Creek, Texas, passed away on August 30, 2024 in Austin, Texas. Steve was born in Siloam Springs, Arkansas to Rex Edward Townes and Verna Gay Cole on October 3, 1959. He went to school in Irving, Texas, Memphis, Tennessee, St Louis, Missouri, and Paris Texas. He attended the University of North Texas. He married Beryl Knudsen Johnson on October 11, 1986 in Dallas, TX. Steve worked as an Integrated Circuit designer for 36 years as an independent contractor for various companies in Dallas and Austin Texas and in San Diego, California, Boston Massachusetts, and Reading, Pennsylvania. He was deeply involved in service and leadership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Steve loved working on cars, he owned several classic cars throughout his life. He also loved to hike and travel, always wanting to pick up and move to whatever city he was visiting and especially he loved spending time with family. Steve is survived by his wife, Beryl, son, Trent Johnson, daughters, Jen Christensen (Jared), Mabel Townes, and Rachel Metzger (Richard), brothers John Townes and Lex Townes, sister Gay Lynn Studebaker and grandchildren Violet, Claire, Vivi, Tessa, Madelin, Sterling and Cole. Steve is preceded in death by his mother, Verna Gay Newman and father Rex Edward Townes. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Monday September 9 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 140 Tahitian Drive, Bastrop, TX 78602 In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Glioblastoma Non-Profit for Patients and Families at kimshope.org.
