Ron Hollenbeck, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend, passed away on June 20, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with kidney cancer, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering strength.
Ron was born on December 28th, 1961 in Lewiston, Idaho to Don and Bonnie Hollenbeck. He grew up in a close knit family alongside his siblings, Gary, Christina, Kip and Kerry. Ron forged bonds with his family that lasted a lifetime.
In 1980 Ron graduated as Valedictorian from Central Valley High School in Spokane, Washington. He was nominated by senator Thomas Foley to the United States Naval Academy, where he developed a deep connection with his naval sponsor parents, Bob and Rosella Lawn. Ron graduated from the Naval Academy with a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering in 1984 and served on active duty until 1994, navigating on a Grumman EA-6B Prowler jet, with dedication and honor.
Ron continued his pursuit of knowledge and received a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of West Florida in Pensacola, further enhancing his skills and preparing him for a successful transition into civilian life.
After leaving the Navy, Ron embarked on a career in management consulting and later joined the General Motors Company in Austin, Texas where he was best known for his servant-leadership mindset. He worked closely with upper management in a number of roles and was the consummate utility player.
Ron had a wide range of interests that brought him joy throughout his life. His favorite pastime was spending time with his 12 grandchildren, whom he adored deeply. He found solace and satisfaction in gardening, working on cars, fixing things and remodeling projects. Ron also enjoyed meditation, collecting gemstones, and the serenity of being at the beach and ocean. He delighted in golf cart rides around the neighborhood and
was known for sneaking candy when he could. He was also a huge animal lover, always allowing the kids to bring home strays even if he was highly allergic.
Ron went by many names but his favorites were, Papa, Papa Ron, Grandpa and Captain Ron.
Ron was a servant leader who exemplified compassion and selflessness in all aspects of his life. He dedicated himself to supporting others and was known as a consummate utility player, excelling in every role he undertook. Ron’s integrity, humility, and ability to bring out the best in those around him made him a beloved figure in his community and workplace. His kind heart and unwavering commitment to service left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Ron will be remembered for his profound love for his wife of nearly 22 years, Kelley, whom he cherished deeply. His devotion to his family, including his children and grandchildren, was central to his life’s purpose, and his love and guidance will continue to inspire and guide them.
Ron is survived by his loving wife, Kelley; his children Kimberly Thornhill (Cooper), Christopher Hollenbeck (Allie), Jessica Long (Alan), Courtney Ralph (Ryan), Brittany Azevedo (Wade), Zachary Lamson (Lauren), and Vanessa Schelley (Scott). His grandchildren; Colden, Madeleine, Heidi,
Juliette, Jacob, Hayden, Cash, Carter, Scotti, Murphy, London and Rylee; his mother, Bonnie Hollenbeck; his siblings, Gary (Sharon), Kip (Jen), and Kerry (Chris); and host of relatives and friends who cherished him dearly.
Ron was preceded in death by his father, Don Hollenbeck, in 2023 and his sister, Christina Marie Hollenbeck in 1982.
Ron’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, June 29th, at Providence Funeral Home in Bastrop, Texas. The visitation will begin at 2pm and services will start at 3pm. Following the services the family will be hosting a reception gathering at The Colony Clubhouse. 368 Stephen F. Austin Blvd, Bastrop, TX 78602
Ronald Scott Hollenbeck will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His legacy of love, humility, compassion, dedication, and his profound devotion to his family will continue to inspire all who knew him.
