Rodney Gene Kinsey, 65, of Garfield, passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2018 in Austin.
Rodney was born December 31, 1952 in Victoria, Texas, the second child of four siblings (Ronald, Roger, and Karen) to Bobby Earl Kinsey and Betty Jean Breiten.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sami Procter Kinsey; his four children- Melissa Caston, Valerie Watts (Curtis), Rodney Kinsey II (Danielle), Misti Ayers; his ten grandchildren- Lauren, Sydney, Andrew, Bradley, Cameron, Sanayah, Madison, Kayden, Zoey, Mila; his mother-in-law, Juanita Procter; his brother, Roger; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Bobby and Betty Kinsey, brother Ronald Kinsey, sister Karen Kinsey Alford and father-in-law Dick Procter.
Rodney attended Bastrop High School in Bastrop, Texas.
From an early age, he worked for his parent’s hamburger restaurants in Austin and various other jobs to help support his family. Rodney worked for Capitol Cable, which eventually became Time Warner for almost 40 years.
Rodney was married to Sami Procter Kinsey for 39 years. They had a special relationship built on love, trust, friendship and mutual respect. Rodney was a caring husband who encouraged Sami to fulfill her dreams.
In the evenings and on weekends Rodney could be found at his barbeque pit cooking dinner and then under the hood of a car with a droplight until the wee hours of the night. He spent his entire life making sure the people he cared about never had to work as hard as he had. Rodney assisted his family, extended family and a multitude of acquaintances in difficult times.
He had a curious, engineering mind and would research the way something worked and then try to improve it. His most recent project was a process to turn water into energy to run a motor. Rodney also read the newspaper and more recently, the internet, daily following current events.
Rodney’s family and those closest to him have fond memories of him fishing at the ranch in Lampasas, pulling tubes on the boat in Marble Falls, trips to Port Aransas, birthday celebrations and his favorite holiday, Christmas.
In the last few years of his life, Rodney enjoyed more of his time. He got up early to make special breakfast requests for his grandchildren, fished in Nacogdoches, started driving a convertible BMW, took flying lessons, tinkered with his Ultralight glider and remodeled his house. Rodney was loved by his family and will continue to be loved and missed.
Friends, family, and others whose lives Rodney touched are invited to attend a Memorial service and Celebration of Life at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home 2079 TX-71, Bastrop, TX 78602.Saturday, December 8, 2018
