Rodney Stafford Barilleaux

March 26, 1950 — June 24, 2024

Rodney Stafford Barilleaux, age 74, passed away on June 24, 2024 at his home. Rod was born March 26, 1950 in Detroit, Michigan to Stafford E. and Colleen C. (Meinecke) Barilleaux. The family moved several times and he ended up attending Bolder High School in Boulder, Colorado. Rod enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1968 and trained as a paratrooper, which he loved! He served his country in Vietnam. Once his first tour was up he re-enlisted 2 more times. As a civilian he worked construction for several years and eventually became a Volunteer Firefighter and EMT working in Los Lunas, and Farmington, New Mexico. Rod was an avid fisherman, and also worked as a river guide in Farmington, NM.

Rod eventually found his home in Bastrop, Texas. He made many friends there, and considered them all family.

Rod loved his bikes, owning a motorcycle most of his adult life. Riding was his passion. He was active member and former Vice President of The American Legion Riders of American Legion post 533 in Bastrop. He had just completed a vacation ride and camping trip, and helped officiate at the Army Birth Day Party with the Riders group on Saturday, June 14th.

Rod was also a member of VFW Post #1204 in Bastrop, Texas. Rod enjoyed playing darts, and pool which he excelled at and was an active member of the APA Pool League.

Rod is preceded in death by his Mother, Colleen Meinecke, and his sister Rene Large. He is survived by his father, Stafford (Skip) & step mother, Marilyn Barilleaux, brother, Brian Barilleaux, brother-in-law, Jerry Large, half siblings, Melissa (Chris) Linden and John (Taryn) Barilleaux, numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.

Rod was kind of spirit and gentle in nature, a true and loyal son, brother & friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Memorial Service will be at 10:00 o’clock on the 13th of July, 2024 at the VFW Post #2527, 1503 F. M. 20, Bastrop, Texas.

In lieu of flowers donations will be greatly appreciated to the American Legion Post #533 or VFW Post #12104 in memory of Rod.
