Robert Andrew Mendieta, 53, of Bastrop, passed away on August 20th in Lockhart.
Robert was born 29 May 1971 at Fort Belvoir, VA to Hector and Carroll Mendieta. He was raised in Austin, Texas and attended David Crockett High School.
Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served for ten years. After completing boot camp at MCRD San Diego, he was stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC where he graduated from the School of Infantry and served as a mortarman and scout sniper with Second Battalion, Fourth Marines. Subsequently, he served as a member of the Fleet Anti-terrorism Support Team in Virginia. He is a veteran of Operations DESERT SHIELD and DESERT STORM.
He had a lifelong passion for firearms and was an accomplished marksman.
Robert is survived by his sisters, Barbara, Laura, and Jan and his brothers, Vincent and Michael. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hector and Carroll Mendieta and his fiancée, Chandra Volkmar.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, 27 August 2024 at Providence Funeral Home in Bastrop. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery where he will be placed next to the love of his life, Chandra Volkmar. Friends are then invited to join the family at American Legion Post 533, 3003 TX-150 Loop, Bastrop, TX 78602 to celebrate Robert's life.
