Robert Browning Burrill, 91, of Bastrop, Texas, passed away on August 24, 2021 due to COVID pneumonia.
Bob (or Bobby) was born in his family home in Luray, Virginia on June 18 th , 1930, the ninth and last child to Edna Elizabeth and George William Burrill. He joined the Air Force in November 1950 and was the eight of nine siblings to enter the armed services. After his service he attended Salem College, West Virginia, on the GI Bill, where he graduated cum laude in 1960. That same year, he and Charlene Mildred Lamb were married on April 9, 1960.
Bob became a member of the United States Treasury Department Financial Operations in August 1960 and became Chief Dispersing Officer of the Treasury in 1978. He became a Charter Member of the President’s Senior Executive Service on July 13, 1979. In 1981, he transferred to the Regional office in Austin, Texas and retired in 1985.
Anyone that knew Bob knew he loved his Washington Redskins! He was also a Washington Senators fan and when they moved, he came to be an Orioles fan. He also LOVED to hunt and fish! He was a life member of the VFW Post in Luray, Virginia and Austin Texas. In Austin Bob served as part of the Honor Guard and honored our vets as they were laid to rest.
Bob is survived by his wife Charlene; daughter Robin and husband Rob Mathews, granddaughter Malerie and great grandson Henry; son Robert II and granddaughter Bailey; sisters in law Charlotte Burrill and Ginnie Burrill; and many nieces and nephews, including greats and great greats. He is preceded in death by his parents George and Edna, his siblings, Kenneth, James, George, Charles, Mary Ellen, Gladys, Howard and Hunter.
A celebration of life is planned for October 2 nd from 2-4pm, in The Colony at the The Oaklands Amenity Center Complex, 368 Stephen F. Austin Blvd, Bastrop, Texas 78602. Please contact the family for more details. Memorials may be made in Bob’s name to:
