Becky was born in Ennis, Texas to Arville Marcus ‘Mutt’ Johnson and Josephine Perkins Johnson on July 7, 1943. In 1961, she graduated with honors from Sam Houston High School in Houston, Texas. Five years later, on September 2, 1966, she married Elliott ‘Manny’ Manferd in Austin, Texas, right after she finished that summer graduating with her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Texas in Austin, Texas. She and Manny were together for a total of 63 years; 6 years dating from their time attending the same Sam Houston High School and the University of Texas in Austin through the 57 years they were married.
Becky always dedicated all of her artistic and professional talents and abilities to serving The Lord Jesus Christ in various roles: as a public education teacher in various cities in Texas over 10 years, as a Southern Baptist Foreign Missionary stationed in Santiago, Chile for almost 18 years, as the Children’s Minister as well as After School Child Care Director at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Austin for 6 years, as a Texas Licensed Master Trainer for Day Care Workers for nearly 11 years, and, of course, as a friend, as a wife, and as “Grammy”.
She is survived by her husband, Manny; by her daughter, Melissa Retter and her husband, Mike Retter; by her son, Cory Manferd, and his wife, Any Manferd; and by her grand-daughters, Mia Rebecca Manferd, and Aimee Rose Manferd.
She is preceded in death by the passing of her Dad, Arville, and her Mom, Jo, and her sister, Nancy.
