It is with great sadness that the family of Pietro Mario Di Quarto announce his passing in Cedar Creek, Texas on June 13, 2022. He was 94 years old.
Pietro was born on November 6, 1927 in Palermo, Sicily to Giovanni Di Quarto and Onofria Teresi. He was the oldest of three brothers. Pietro was fifteen during the Allied invasion of Sicily. He survived the bombardment of Palermo, developing a tremor that stayed with him for the rest of his life. Pietro befriended many American GIs who were stationed in Sicily during World War II and fell in love with the jazz music they listened to on the radio.
He married Anna Acquaviva on April 28, 1954. Pietro and Anna were married for 50 years, until Anna’s death in Altofonte, Sicily in June 2004. Together, Anna and Pietro had three daughters, Maria Giovanna, Giuseppa and Lucia Valeria.
Pietro was a public servant who worked for the city of Palermo and held local elected office in his hometown of Altofonte.
Pietro and his family moved to St. Louis, Missouri in 1969. Pietro made his way back to Sicily in 1982 but he returned to the United States in 2017. He lived in Maidens, Virginia before moving to Cedar Creek, Texas.
Pietro loved gardening and continued to collect seeds and grow fruits and vegetables until the very end of his life.
He enjoyed sharing stories and jokes, cooking and eating pasta, making and drinking wine, fiddling with electronics, listening to jazz, and staying in touch with neighbors and relatives on Facebook.
