Oliver Lewis Shirley Jr.

Oliver Lewis Shirley, Jr., age 80, of Bastrop, Texas passed away in his home September 6, 2017. He was born to Oliver Lewis Shirley, Sr. and Cora Mae Shirley June 15, 1937 in Carlisle, Texas. On November 13, 1955 Oliver married the love of his life, Della Deo Blakely. After high school, Oliver joined the United States Navy and served as a Band director CINC PAC FLT in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Serving for 30 years, he retired from the Armed Forces as a Senior Chief Petty Officer and obtained a Master’s Degree from Southwest Texas. Oliver was a professional musician and a retired band director. Oliver loved playing music and researching his genealogy. Oliver is preceded in death by his parents Cora & Oliver Shirley of Marble Falls, Sister Patricia Wisenbacker of Austin, Sister Polly Gentry of Burnet, and Brother John Shirley of Austin. He is survived by his wife Della of Bastrop; Sons: Oliver Lewis Shirley III & wife Carol of San Diego, CA, Steven Shirley & wife Donna of Garland, Jeffrey Shirley & wife Sara of Pflugerville; Daughter: Rhonda Williams & husband Tracy of Bastrop; 17 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 3 sisters and a brother. Memorial Service will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 09, 2017 at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Bastrop, Texas. Interment will take place at a later date with full military honors at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas.
