Mary Ruth Stockton

February 19, 1927 — June 2, 2022

Mary Ruth Baker was born in Albany, TX in 1927 and grew up in Fort Hancock, TX. She attended Texas Women’s University, where she majored in music, which continued to be an important focus throughout her life.

She played in the dance band in college and piano and organ in her church. Later in life, she delighted her family, especially her granddaughters, with her beautiful music, regularly hosting singalongs around the organ.

While attending college, she met and married Vivian Edward Dunn and later had three children – Carolyn, Deborah, and David. They raised their family in Deer Park, TX and Mary was active in the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She had a long and fruitful career as Executive Assistant to the Vice President of MD Anderson Hospital in Houston.

In addition to raising her children and working full time, Mary had a passion for art and was an accomplished oil painter. Using her hometown and nature as inspiration, she leaves behind a body of work treasured by her family and friends.

After losing her beloved husband, Eddie, Mary found love again later in life and spent many wonderful years married to Don Stockton and expanding her circle of family.

She is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Bill and Joe, grandchildren Amy, Nicole, Kelly, and Gillian, great-grandchildren Jewel, Morgan, Rook, and Tallah, and great-great-grandchild Aliyana.

Mary was a friend to all she met and will be missed deeply. She lived an incredible 95 years, a strong and loving matriarch surrounded by people who loved her and whose lives are richer for having known her. Though we are saddened to say goodbye and will miss the brightness of her smile in our lives, we are grateful for every moment she was with us.
