Martin Luther Stanfield

February 24, 1939 — December 18, 2020

Martin Luther Stanfield Jr., better known as, M.L. Stanfield 81 years of Cedar Creek, Texas.  Passed away on December 18, 2020, in Smithville, Texas.

M.L. was born in Austin, Texas to Martin Luther Stanfield and Myrtle Rose Curry on February 24, 1939.  He went to school at Austin High School.  He then attended and graduated from Tarleton State University.  He married Priscilla Gay Blackmon on January 24, 1969, in Austin, Texas.  They then moved to Cedar Creek, Texas in 1982 where they purchased their forever home and raised their two children, Marty and Minda.

He owned a nursery and Landscape business with his father and his lifetime friend Stanley Buerger until 1982.  He then worked for Mrs. Baird’s Bread until 1996 as a transport driver.  In 1982 he started working part-time as a school bus driver for Del Valle ISD and retired in 2015.  He was involved in Hermann Sons Life and regularly attended Wednesday morning men's coffee at the First National Bank in Bastrop.

In the early days, M.L. enjoyed listening to country-western music and going to dances with his wife Priscilla. He enjoyed family vacations in Crystal Beach and being able to go deep-sea fishing with his son and daughter and enjoyed any opportunity he could take to eat barbecue crab while he was there. M.L. in his 20 plus years of driving a school bus enjoyed interacting with the children and other people he crossed paths with during that time.  He enjoyed working on his farm with his son and other family members throughout his life. M.L. enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and being able to watch them grow up and become the independent individuals they are today. M.L. overall was a friendly man who would love to tell stories and help any of his family and friends whenever they needed it. He was a respected man by many and was dearly loved by his family and his friends.

M.L. is survived by his son Martin Stanfield III and wife Angie, daughter Minda Caudle and husband Robert, Grandchildren Zachary Tolliver, Priscilla Stanfield, Preslie Tolliver, Peyton Stanfield, and Ashlynn Caudle.
