Martin "Marty" Luther Stanfield Iii

Martin Luther Stanfield III, better known as Marty Stanfield, 47 years of Giddings, Texas passed away on April 2, 2021, in Austin, Texas.

Marty was born in Austin, Texas to Martin Luther Stanfield Jr. and Priscilla Gay Blackmon Stanfield on April 11, 1973.  The family moved to Cedar Creek in 1982 where Marty attended and graduated from Bastrop High School.  He married Angela “Angie” Dement on April 20, 2000.  Marty and his family moved to Giddings, Texas in May of 2008 where he resided until his passing.

Marty started working for Mrs. Bairds Bakery in August of 1991 and continued working for Bimbo Bakeries as a Sr. Field Support Analyst until the day he died.  He was 4 months shy of working 30 years for the same company.  Sharing words from Dennis Simpson, his friend and coworker, really says it all.

“Marty’s mother passed away when he was in his early teens.  His dad sold the family nursery and took a job driving transportation for MRS BAIRDS to raise Marty and his younger sister with a more stable income.  During this time Marty would do his best caring for his sister to help share the parenting duties while his dad was on the road.  Marty started with BBU 30 years ago in the Austin plant on the oven infeed for the holiday bun season part time after school his senior year.  He said he lost 60 lbs. of sweat the first month.  He was the only large guy in the plant and there was a running bet that he would not make it.  One of the people he started with passed out before lunch, and his career outlasted everyone else working at the plant that day.  He learned conversational Spanish as he was promoted around the bakery doing what was required to help the team.  It was my pleasure to see the look of surprise in others when his six foot plus cowboy frame would unexpectedly start speaking Spanish.  He was reluctant to share this bi-lingual skill because he thought his Spanish was pequeño.  By the time he was 21 they asked him to get licensed to run trucks in the yard which lead to him picking up transportation routes when extra hauls or other fill in work was needed.  He moved to sales where his can-do attitude and friendly demeanor enabled him to easily run the vacation routes all over central Texas.  Rarely would we drive through a crossroads, and he would not be able to tell you where he had served a restaurant or grocery store within the next 10 miles.  During his time in sales he made many lasting friends, and even has a burrito named after him at one of his favorite stops.  The most important relationship he made at one of the stops in Giddings was with his wife Angie.  They have two beautiful daughters Priscilla and Peyton.  Priscilla is in college and Peyton is still in High School.  He became great friends with Noe Ortiz (ZSL Weslaco Tx.) who helped Marty hone his famous barbeque skills.  As any great Texas pit master would, they toured as many cookoffs and competitions as they could schedule.  Recently Marty was able to complete one of his goals by placing in the top tier of one of his favorite events.  Marty loved life and the people around him.  I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to travel thousands of miles in south Texas and Louisiana with him as we would work on projects ranging from restructures, new depots and camera installations sometimes completing 3 depots a week. (That is still his trade secret.)  During those long drives we naturally shared stories and would trade driving while the other slept.  Our conversations would naturally center on our life experiences, families, the next project, and work in general.  He had a love for everyone on the Field Support team.  Many times he would share how he had two families.  The one that was at home raising him while he was trying to raise them, and his work family.  His best gift was the ability to genuinely let those around him know he cared and would have your back.  He told me on several occasions that he would not know where else he could be happier in a job.  He was offered a couple financially lucrative opportunities and he simply would not take them because he felt it would be abandoning this family.  His brand of loyalty, work ethic, grit, and friendship to all is something we all are blessed to have witnessed.”

Marty was an outgoing person who loved to meet new people, whether he was working or playing he never met a stranger. When Marty was younger he would go to dances and concerts.  Marty participated in Operation Turkey for many years.  He loved to help out St. Paul Serbin School for different events even after his girls graduated from there.  Marty loved going hunting and fishing with his friends and family.  Crystal Beach was a special place since he was a young man till the recent years where he would share those same experiences with his daughters.  Marty also loved to barbeque and participate in barbeque cook-offs with his friends and his daughters.  Many will remember Marty for his famous Banana Pudding.  Even with all of this Marty’s primary love was being a father, husband, brother, and uncle.  He loved his wife and daughters more than anything and they were his world.  He is so proud of his daughters and the young women they have grown to be.  As many know, Marty was a loving man who would help anyone and give the shirt off his back.  He was a jokester, who had the most infectious smile, laugh, and attitude that will be remembered by anyone that he came in contact with.

Marty is preceded in death by his mother and father Priscilla and Martin Stanfield.

Marty is survived by his wife Angie.  His two daughters Priscilla and Peyton.  His sister Minda Caudle and her husband Robert, sister-in-law Alicia Baker, Nieces and Nephews, Zachary Tolliver, Preslie Tolliver, Ashlynn Caudle, Mason Ingram, and Steven Ingram. He is also survived by his extended family: aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 8, 2021, from 3:00-7:00 p.m.  Family will be present from 5:00-7:00 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 9, 2021, at Providence Funeral Home.

Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Elgin, Texas.
