Marcelina Avila Perez

Marcelina Avila Perez, 81 years old of Austin, Texas passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2020 in Austin Texas.

Marcelina was born in Carrizo Springs, Texas to Jose Refujio Avila and Anita Cantu Avila on April 27, 1939. She married Julio Perez on April 30, 1963 in Carrizo Springs Texas.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved dressing up every time she had the chance, even if it was just sitting at home. She made sure she had her bling hat and earrings on, no matter what. Family was the most important thing to her, she always made sure her family had what they needed. She knew not one stranger because everyone she came across became family. Everyone knew her as Grandma Perez. She had a great sense of humor, a wild side most.

Marcelina was known for her delicious cooking but especially for her tamales there was no such thing as tamale season she always had a stash in the freezer and if not, if you could give her a couple hours she'd have them ready for you.

Marcelina Avila Perez is survived by Margarita Avila whom was a mother figure to her from the age of 3 years old. She is also survived by her daughter, Diana Perez (Gilberto Ortiz) sons Juan Perez (TracyAnn Wailani) Ernesto Perez (Julie Perez) 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, with 2 more on the way.

Marcelina is preceded in death by her husband Julio Perez, her son Joe Luis Perez and her granddaughter Angelica (Nena) Ortiz and all 7 of her siblings.

Visitation will be on Saturday May 30, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. and the service will be from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Bastrop Providence funeral home located at 2079 TX-71 East, Bastrop, Texas, 78602.

The family of Marcelina Avila Perez wishes to extend our sincerest thanks to Dr. Francisco J. Ortero, Sarah Ray N.P. and Dr. Sammy Lerma, who never gave up on Marcelina, they were with her to the end.
