Louis "Lou" Smith

Louis “Lou” L. Smith, 83, of Bastrop, formerly of Round Top passed away on Monday, December 23, 2019.

Louis was born in Billings, Montana to Leonard and Ruby (Ewalt) Smith on January 5, 1936. He married Sandra Elliott on May 5, 1959.  Worked for Boeing until 1970; moved to Texas and established a welding shop which turned into a RV sales and service shop in Spring, Texas. He sold the shop and moved to Round Top, Texas in 2007 where Louis started his competition in carriage driving. His last competition was held in May of 2019.

He enjoyed drag racing, street rods, flying planes, boat drag racing and jet skiing on the lake. He traveled and competed in combined carriage driving events. He was ranked tenth in the nation in the late 90’s in the NSR Association.

Louis is survived by his wife, Sandra; daughter, Martie Hanson and husband, Tom; son, Michael Smith; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren and two sisters: Beverly Graham and Roxanne Hofferber.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2020 FROM 2:00 - 5:00 P.M. at the home of David and Tracie McFarland, 526 McAllister Rd., Bastrop, Texas.
