Leonard Maurice Philipp

Leonard Maurice Philipp, 66, of Bastrop, Texas, passed away on January 15, 2021 after a courageous battle with Glioblastoma.

Leonard was born on January 12, 1955 to Emma Maurice Hoyt Philipps and Johnnie Philipp, Sr. in Houston, Texas. After graduating from Lamar Consolidated High School in 1973, he went on to work in the oil field for 40+ years and retired in 2018.

In 1978, Leonard met Jan, and they wed in 1979. They were blessed with one child, Diana Philipp Arthur.

Leonard was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, which was something he often mentioned. He was unendingly proud of his wife, Jan, daughter Diana Arthur and son-in-law Hunter Arthur, and of course his grandsons, Gus, 5 and Graham, 2.

Leonard was a passionate rancher, cowboy and fisherman. He could often be found in his bass boat fishing. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, mother lodge Morton #72 and Mina Lodge #1456. He was a member of the Tejas Vaqueros and founder of the A.P.I. team roping. His lifetime memberships included, Coastal Conservation Association, Texas Trophy Hunters, and Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

Anyone who knew Leonard knew that he was the most loving husband and father that a family could ask for. He was also an amazing friend to many.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Maurice Hoyt Philipp, and father, Johnnie Philipp, Sr.

He is survived by wife, Jan Philipp; daughter Diana Philipp Arthur and husband Hunter Arthur; grandsons, Augustus and Graham Arthur; his four brothers: Ed Terry (Jeanne), Darrell Terry, Jr. (Jan), Johnnie Philipp Jr. (Kathy), and Scott Philipp (Trisha), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Leonard’s life will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at 771 Highway 304, Toro Plata Ranch.
