Husband, Father, World Traveler, Marksman
Leonard Oden Goodloe Jr. was called home peacefully from his ranch in Bastrop, TX on January 22, 2021.
Leonard, or “Goody” as his friends called him, was the eldest of two children born to Jewell Eva Miller Goodloe and Leonard O. Goodloe in Omaha, Nebraska on August 14, 1956. Goody spent his formative years in Omaha and attended Omaha Central High School. Upon graduation he enrolled at the University of Nebraska where he studied accounting, pledged Kappa Alpha Psi, and was a member of the Cornhusker wrestling team. Following university, the proud Kappa Man answered the call to join a larger fraternity: The United States Army. Traveling the world and all 50 states as an Army Combat Medic, Leonard served from 1977 until October of 1990 and through his service was bestowed the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and the Expert Field Medical Badge amongst many others. Though proud of each one, the marksman was most proud of his Sharpshooter Badge. An avid shooting enthusiast and gun collector, Goody’s passion for firearms carried over from his service into civilian life where he competed nationally in IDPA shooting matches. After serving in the army, Leonard worked in the oil and gas industry starting as a roughneck but quickly moved up to Operations Integrity Coordinator. During his time working on rigs from States to Singapore, Brazil to Nigeria, he completed over 53 certifications and license and later started his own company, Goodloe Safety Consulting. Outside of work, military service, and shooting, Goody was also known for his philanthropic endeavors. A supporter of the American Breast Cancer Society, champion of the Austin City Public Library, and continual contributor to various law enforcement charities, Leonard was perhaps most proud of his work in Nigeria where he helped educate young and old alike and in 2011 brought clean water in the form of a well to a small Nigerian Village.
Goody is survived by his wife Ashley Goodloe. Three children: Angel Goodloe-Campbell of Houston, TX, Leonard T. Goodloe of Los Angeles, CA, and Thomas Goodloe of Atlanta, Ga., His niece Maya Johnson. Five grandchildren: Selah Adams, Lani Adams, Zion Goodloe, Kendal Goodloe, and Thomas E. Goodloe Jr., as well as a host of cousins, extended family, and friends who loved Goody dearly.
