Larry Dewitt Brown

Larry DeWitt Brown, age 79, passed away at home on June 2, 2023, in Bastrop, Texas, after a long illness of cancer. He was born in Tuscola, Illinois, on March 16, 1944. He attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison where he majored in Economics. After college, he served in the US Army National Guard. He worked at AT&T (and its subsidiaries, Lucent Technologies and Avaya Communications) for 35 years as VP & General Manager Global Services. He began a second career with LCRA and worked as Principal Account Executive in the Transmissions and Communications divisions for 13 years. Larry met his wife, Ann Brown, in 2002 in San Diego, California. They moved to Texas and were married June 4, 2005, in Bastrop, Texas. He has two children with his former wife, Kelly Brown, Dr. Taylor Brown of Houston, and Brinkley Brown Eiting of Dallas Larry loved the outdoors and was an avid sailboat racing enthusiast during his years of living and working in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. He competed numerous times in the Chicago to Mackina Island race (a 333-mile race) and won several times in his class. His longest sail with a crew of five, was from Tortola to Florida (970 nautical miles). He loved the game of golf and played most of the premier courses in the country, including Pebble Beach where he scored a hole-in-one on #13. He and his wife, Ann, spent many happy hours together hiking, jogging, playing golf, dinners with friends and family, and playing with their grandchildren. Larry is survived by his wife, Ann Brown, son, Taylor Brown and Josie Brown, daughter, Brinkley Brown Eiting and Jeff Eiting, stepchildren, Tracy Permenter and Clint Permenter, Aaron Gibbs and Dana Gibbs, and Casey Gibbs, his sister, Sharon Brown Bunting, grandchildren, Haley Permenter Gauthier, Blake Permenter, Kayla Degracia, Eleanor Brown, Henry Brown, Grant Brown, DeWitt Eiting, and Clancy Eiting. He is preceded in death by his parents, Laurence DeWitt Brown and Helen Brown Cross, his stepfather, Ward Cross, and his stepdaughter, Kelly Gibbs Degracia. A Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, June 17, 2023, at 2:00 at the United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in Bastrop, Texas. Memorials may be given to Bastrop Food Pantry or Family Crisis Center, Bastrop, Texas. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Larry’s team of doctors at Houston Methodist Hospital, Dr. Rob Dougherty, Larry personal physician and the nurses from Gilead Hospice.
