Jose Manuel Martinez

May 4, 1956 — July 23, 2020

Jose (Mighty Mouse) Manuel Martinez, 64, of San Marcos, passed away on July 23, 2020 in Cedar Creek, Tx.

Mighty was born in San Marcos, Tx to Rosario and Trinidad Proa Martinez on May 4, 1956. He went to school at San Marcos. He married Laura Lee Sheffield on May 4, 2001 in Austin, Tx.

He enjoyed roller skating and boxing in his early years. As he got older he enjoyed riding his Harley and spending time with his friends and family. Mighty was a simple man who also enjoyed listening to classic rock as he made himself supervisor of all the projects happening at the property. When his grandkids would ask “Why aren't you helping?”, he would laugh and say “Well someone has to be the boss around here”. There were times when we wanted to smack him but instead just laugh at his smart remarks. That is what we are going to miss about him most of all. Mighty lived life without fear and was tough as nails and that was what his grandkids loved about him. He enjoyed telling stories to his grandkids and great grandkids. He had them all believing his tall tales but his kids knew better. Being in Mighty's presence everyone knew to expect a night of laughter. Oh and there were some wild nights also as he was very unpredictable. He was the life of the party and he created so many memories with so many loved ones. Mighty lived on the wild side and was free as a bird. Some of the many things he enjoyed was fishing. Now that doesnt mean he was good at it, but it kept him happy just being with his family. He was fascinated with Native Indian history and culture. He had a big collection of Native Indian and Hippie artifacts. His home was decorated inside and out bohemian style. It was like being at a museum and for his grandkids and great grandkids, it was educational. Mighty lived and dressed as he pleased and that was what made him unique. He had a strong personality that was instilled in his kids till this day. Mighty was a former roller skating champion, boxer, biker and hippie. But besides all of that he was a grandfather, great grandfather and father. He left a huge family behind but one day we will be united again. Till then we will remember his words forever “HARLEY DAVIDSON"!

Mighty is survived by his son Joseph Manuel Martinez and wife Veronica, daughters Victoria Marie Martinez-Vargas, and Linda Ann Martinez; Sisters Mary Helen Mercado and Virginia Perez; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.

Mighty is preceded in death by both his parents, his wife Laura, brothers Daniel Martinez, Domingo Martinez, Juan Manuel Martinez, and son-in-law Mark Anthony Vargas.
