Joel “Joey” Warren Kirby of Bastrop, TX passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at the age of 53. Joey was born in Dallas, TX to James “Jim” Wesley and Edwina Sue King Kirby on November 30, 1969. While he grew up in Bullard, TX, he graduated from Mabank High School in 1988. Always an avid golfer, Joey’s senior year his golf team finished first in state, and he finished 4th individually. Joey met the love of his life, Kerri Elizabeth Mauch, in September 1991 when set up on a blind date at a friend’s house. They were engaged just a few months later and married on August 8, 1992 in Kenedy. Joey and Kerri eventually settled in Bastrop to raise their family and attended Calvary Baptist Church. Joey worked in warehouse management, most recently at Callaway Golf. During their nearly 30 years of marriage, it would be impossible to count the number of sporting events Joey and Kerri attended to cheer on their favorite Manor or Cedar Creek team. They also thoroughly enjoyed UT football and basketball games. Joey is known by many as the biggest UT fan they know. Their daughters were no stranger to the basketball gym or softball field, and Joey and Kerri were always there to support them and their teammates. When not in a sporting season, the family enjoyed making memories while traveling on vacations. In Joey’s spare time, he enjoyed playing golf and shooting pool as well as supporting his favorite NFL team, the Las Vegas Raiders. Joey is survived by daughters Jordan Elizabeth Kirby and Meagan Elizabeth Kirby of Bastrop; father Jim (Sandra) Kirby of Hemphill; brothers Jeff (Cindy) Kirby of Weatherford and Wes Kirby of Bastrop along with nephews and nieces. Joey is preceded in death by his wife, Kerri Kirby, and his mother, Sue Kirby. Visitation will be Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 9:00a.m. followed by a memorial service at 10:00a.m. at the Bastrop Providence Funeral Home. Dr. Larry Givens will be officiating. Internment will follow in Kenedy, TX, at a later date with a private graveside burial. Honorary pallbearers: Adam Kirby, Aaron Kirby, Chance Kirby, Kyle Kirby, Brian Barnes, and Bob Ebbinghaus. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Arthritis Foundation, or the charity of your choice.
