Johnny W. Ziebold, 76, passed away on October 20, 2022 at his home in Smithville, Texas.
Johnny was born in Fort Worth, Texas to Johnny William Ziebold and Doris Brantley on March 1, 1946. He enlisted in the United States Army after graduating from Diamond Hill High School in 1964 and served his country with an Honorable Discharge in 1967 from the 10th Mountain Division with active service in Korea. Johnny then went on to serve corporations such as Bell Helicopter, General Dynamics and Lockheed Martin before ultimately starting his own successful small business which he sold before his retirement in 2008.
Some little-known facts about Johnny are that he won an award for perfect attendance at McLean Middle School and that he had a beautiful voice and sang for the Fort Worth All City Senior High School Orchestra and Chorus. Though he no longer used that voice for singing, he maintained a strong voice that he used to speak his mind and maintain independence of spirit (which is, admittedly, a loving euphemism for being more than a little stubborn).
Johnny will be remembered for his silent but steadfast presence, his savory (NOT sweet) skillet cornbread, his ability to find lost things and to remember forgotten things, and for having been pioneer stock through his final days.
During his lifetime, Johnny loved cheering and sometimes cursing the Dallas Cowboys, watching sci-fi and Westerns on TV, representing all things Texas, traveling with his friends and family, hunting and deep-sea fishing, sipping a nice cold Crown and coke, and finishing off a good ol’ chicken fried steak.
Johnny was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, and is survived by his wife, Debra Lynn Ziebold; his son Brent Ziebold and wife Ginger Ziebold, his daughter Amy Snoga and husband John Snoga, his stepdaughter Karen O’Brien and husband Matthew Kent, his stepdaughter Sarah E. O’Brien; his sister Betty Waylon and husband Jim Waylon; his sister-in-law Lenda Ziebold; his granddaughter Mia Ziebold, his grandchildren Clinton Riffey and Lila Ziebold; and multiple fur children and grandchildren, but most especially princess Charlotte (his favorite); and countless beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.
Johnny is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Milton Ziebold.
Visitation will be held from 11am to 2pm on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life for family and friends will follow at his home in Smithville.
