John W. White

February 19, 1932 — January 24, 2021

John Wesley White of Bastrop, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 24, 2021, with many family members by his side. He was 88 years old.

John was born February 19, 1932, in Sherman Texas. He was married to Agnes Cox White.
John graduated from Bremerton (Washington) High School in 1950, where he enjoyed participating in Boxing, Track and Pole Vaulting. As a young man, John enjoyed the outdoors of the Pacific Northwest, as well as hunting, and fishing.

He proudly served in the Army National Guard, then enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he completed Officer Candidate School and retired at Fort Wolters in Mineral Wells, Texas, as a Major after 22 years of service. He was an Army pilot while stationed in Germany, Korea and Vietnam. While in Korea he flew the DCH-4 Caribou Airplane and in Vietnam he flew the UH-1 Huey Helicopter. John was a member of the 10th Combat Aviation Battalion, Lt. Commander of an Assault Helicopter Company, and a Flight Safety Officer at Fort Wolters. Following his time in the Service, he enjoyed a long and successful career as a Real Estate Broker throughout Central Texas.

John is survived by his wife Agnes Cox White, his three sons, Neal White and wife Gwen of Salado, Texas and Bill White and wife Karen of Juneau, Alaska, and Kevin White and wife Yana of Bastrop, Texas, grandchildren Rose Parker and husband Paul, Laura White, Emily Wilks and husband Jamie, Caleb White, Jordan White, Sarah White, Polina White, Denver White, and eight great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his Father Patrick H. White of Stephenville, Texas, and Mother Odessa (White) Weatherby and husband Thor Weatherby of Seattle, Washington, Shirley Mae (White) Evans of his first marriage, and his two brothers, Ray White and Patrick White

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home located at 2079 TX-71 East in Bastrop, Texas 78602.
