Joan Kathryn Rader

Joan Kathryn Rader of Smithville passed away on May 24, 2020 in Smithville, Texas.

Joan was born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania to John and Irene Cholerton on May 15, 1936.  She graduated from Roxborough High School in Philadelphia and studied at Bryan Mawr College.  She married Albert Rader on February 16, 1957.

Joan worked in the security department for retail stores in Massachusetts and New Jersey.  After moving to Texas with her family she enjoyed working in residential real estate.  Her most rewarding endeavor was as an assistant in the Physical Therapy Department at Tomball Regional Hospital where she worked for approximately twenty years.  Some of her hobbies included traveling, gardening, bingo, and reading.  She also volunteered at the Smithville Library.

Joan is survived by son, Wesley Rader and wife Donna; daughter, Victoria Greene and husband, Jeffrey; sister, Doris Green; six grandchildren: Adam Rader, Madeline Rader, Abigail Rader, Bradley Greene, Daniel Greene, Elizabeth Smith, and seven great-grandchildren: Jubilee Lindsey, Wesley Lindsey, Ruby Lindsey, Avery Greene, Nolan Greene, Logan Greene, and Lillian Smith.

A memorial service celebrating Joan’s life will be held at a later date (date and time to be announced).

Memorials may be given to the Serenity Star (Comfort Cafe) in Smithville.  When donating please make a note that the donation is in honor of Joan Rader.
