James Daniel Dufour, 71, of Cedar Creek, Texas passed away on November 30, 2021.
Jim was born in Aurora, Illinois to Raymond and May Dufour on September 11, 1950. He graduated from Michigan Tech University with a B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering. Upon graduation Jim joined the Navy and was commissioned as an ensign in 1973.During his naval career he was stationed in Key West, Florida and Coos Bay, Organ and enjoyed having the opportunity to live on both coasted of the United States.
After his discharge he took a supervisor position for Babcock and Wilcox in Ohio. Then in 1979 he went on to work for Cameron Oil Tool in Houston as a quality insurance supervisor in their ball valve division. Jim took a few years off to follow his passion and start a nursery. After the nursery he returned to metallurgy at NASA for a few years before returned to Cameron. He authored his company’s metallurgical hand book that was used to train all company engineers and was adopted by many other companies for their use also. Jim served on the NACE standards committee for many years, He enjoyed all the challenges of his career but the things he loved most was sharing his knowledge with younger engineers. He retired from Cameron in 2009. Not ready to leave metallurgy he worked as an industry consultant for ten years.
Where ever Jim lived he was very involved in the Methodist Church. He regularly taught Sunday School and received a Volunteer of the Year Award for the Houston Dioce. Upon moving to Cedar Creek he joined Cedar Creek United Methodist Church where he was heavily involved in church activates including teaching Sunday school and serving as a committee chair. Jim served on his church's wheelchair ramp team for about 5 years where they built dozens of ramps for people in need.
Jim was a great lover and collector of books. He took great pride in his home library and enjoyed sharing it with people. He also enjoyed taking care of his plants and maintaining the church prayer garden. If you would look for him at home he was either reading for his own enjoyment or to one of his several grand kids or outside tending to his many plants. Jim also had a passion for all kinds of animals having many different species over the years.
Jim is survived by his wife Susan of 42 years. His four kids Tommy Dufour, Julie and spouse Josh Feddersen, Debbie Dufour, and Cyndi and spouse Cade Cormier. Five grandkids Parker, Avery, and Kali Feddersen, Sadie and Neil Cormier. Sisters Betsy Schnarre and Ginny Isgren, brothers John and Tom Dufour. Along with numerous nieces, nephews and in laws.
Viewing will be held at Bastrop Providence funeral home on Tuesday, December 7 th from 4-6pm. A celebration of life will be held the following day Wednesday, December 8 th at Cedar Creek United Methodist Church at 11 a.m.
In liue of flowers the family would like to ask that you donate to an animal rescue or to your favorite charity in honor of Jim’s love for animals.
