James “Jimmy” Bytendorp passed away on December 5, 2021. He was born March 11, 1949, to Lain S. Bytendorp and Donna T. Bytendorp. Jimmy graduated from Granite High School and Salt Lake Community College. He married his eternal mate on February 20, 1970. He was the proud father of Victoria and Brett.
Jim never met a stranger. He had a ready smile and a twinkle in his eye. People, young or old, were drawn to him. His children’s friends were his friends. He incorporated everyone into his family. Jim was generous to a fault, readily available to help with any project. He loved camping, fishing, the desert and sitting by a fire. Most of all he loved his family.
Jim served in Vietnam and received the Silver Star for bravery. He also served in the Utah Army National Guard and for many years was Utah’s highest recipient of honors given by the armed forces. Few people new this about Jim because he was one who never called attention to himself.
In 2020, Jim, Glenna and his children moved to Texas for a “country life” and had many new adventures. In Texas, he again met people who were instantly drawn to his kind and gentle nature.
Jim was the father of Victoria (Tim) Carrick and Brett Bytendorp, a brother to Linda Schoenfeld (Duaine), Fred Bytendorp, Carla Mills (Craig) and Reed Bytendorp (Shelly). His sister Gilda, brothers John, Glen and Bruce proceeded him in death. He was the immensely proud grandfather to Amanda (Isaac) Mendoza, Steffani (Ernest) Keys and Cassandra (Kaden) Atkin. He was blessed beyond measure to have 5 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held in Bastrop Texas.
