Our beloved father, Henry Glenn Bridges went home to be with Jesus on January 23, 2022 at 9:15 PM in his home, at age the of 86. He was surrounded by family and passed peacefully while we held his hands, sang to him and prayed over him.
Henry Glenn Bridges was born to William Ellis Bridges and Lurley Bridges on October 11, 1935 in Armuchee, Georgia. Henry and his brother Joseph lost their mother early in their lives. Henry and Joseph lived in a Methodist Children’s Home for many years while their father traveled Texas constructing churches. Henry often spoke fondly of his life in the children’s home and the kindness of the ladies that cared for them.
Henry met his soul mate, Doris Marie Singer in Texas City, Texas at Doris’ church where her father was the pastor. Henry and Doris married on December 21, 1956 and went on to adopt 2 daughters, Kimberley Bridges Shelton and Dana Lynn Bridges Sharp. Henry and Doris also fostered many children during their marriage. Among those, Corina Elizabeth Lozano who has been a part of our family since that time.
In addition to being a dedicated and loving father, Henry’s second love was serving in every church that was fortunate enough to have him. He appointed himself maintenance man for the church and bus driver for neighborhood kids and the elderly. Among his passion for service was serving the needs of Widows and Widowers. Henry also served as song leader while Doris played the piano at our Pawpaw’s Church in La Marque, Texas.
Throughout his entire life, he held an unwavering faith in God, which he willingly shared with all. If you came in contact with Henry, he would lovingly ask if you knew the Lord Jesus as your Savior; and if the answer was “no”, he would share his faith and do his best to make sure that you knew the way. If Dad knew you, you were prayed for and loved on. Dad was the most fervent prayer warrior. If you were on his prayer list, trust us - you were prayed for daily.
Dad’s frugal nature is world renown and unmatched by any others! He was fastidious with his daily monitoring of his kilowatts, and it’s rumored that the City would ask Dad how many kilowatts he used BEFORE they sent his bill! Dad’s last final full sentence Friday afternoon at home were, “Dane, turn off the porch light, please.” We KNEW it wasn't the brightness of the light but the kilowatts that bulb was using!
Henry joins his Father, William Ellis Bridges and Mother, Lurley Ruth Wilson Bridges and his beloved Stepmother, Verda Mable Bridges, his Father-in-Law, Rev. Aaron O’Neal Singer and Mother-in-Law, Lottie Vivian Truitt Singer, in Heaven.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Doris Marie Singer Bridges; his brother, Joseph N. Bridges; children, Kimberley Bridges Shelton and husband Roger of Bastrop, Texas, and Dana Bridges Sharp and husband David Turbeville of Houston, Texas; Corina Elizabeth Lozano of Belleville, Texas; Grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Shelton, James Ross and Kyle Aaron Shelton of Austin, Texas and Great-Grandson, Connor Aaron; Benjamin, Elena and Emelia Perez, Bailey and Blessing Turbeville.
