Hector Louis Ortiz, a proud veteran and dedicated public servant, passed away on December 17, 2024, in Austin, Texas, at the age of 67. Hector was born on February 26, 1957, in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico, to Luz Rosario Ortiz and Juan Batista Ortiz, carrying the passion, strength, and gregarious spirit of his heritage into every aspect of his life.
Hector served his country with honor for 10 years in the United States Army, forging a legacy of discipline and commitment. Following his military service, he continued a life of service as a correctional officer for the state of Georgia, retiring after 25 years. Known for his unyielding dedication and steady leadership, Hector left a lasting impact on his community.
Hector was an avid lover of sports, and a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan. His love for sports brought people together and his spirited commentary was always a high light.
Hector is survived by his four children: Hector Ortiz Jr., Monica Ornelas, Nicolas Ortiz, and Elysia Ortiz Payton; his five brothers and sisters; and a host of nieces and nephews.
