Gretchen Ann Deuble, 78, of Bastrop, TX, passed away unexpectedly on March 8, 2024 at her home. Gretchen was born in Canton, Ohio to Beverly and Walter Deuble on June 15, 1945, the first of six children. She went to Glenwood High School, graduated from Hillsdale College with a major in Spanish, and obtained a masters degree in education from Kent State University. Gretchen worked in higher education, legal aid, and social work as a counselor in a minimum-security prison, with children as an advocate, and on a Native American Reservation in Arizona. She was a generous and well-loved member of her community, volunteering at the Lost Pines Art Center where she displayed and donated original photographs for fundraising. Gretchen was passionate about the arts, photography, travel, music- especially jazz, family history, University of Texas women’s basketball, and her many beloved dogs over the years. She had many friends and was a magnet for people from all walks of life; both nearby and all around the world. Gretchen’s love for connection, adventure, and exploration knew no bounds making her fun to be with bringing joy and laughter to every gathering. She will be deeply missed by countless friends and her loving family. Gretchen is survived by her dog Sophie, siblings Steve Deuble (Barb), Molly White (Clinton), and Joe Deuble (Deb); Nephews JP Deuble, Max Deuble, Andy New, Reeve Lanham, Jonathan White, and Sam White; nieces Molly Zerrer, Jan Deuble, and Hannah White. Gretchen is preceded in death by her parents and siblings Andy Deuble and Maggie Deuble Farley. A memorial service and reception will be held at Lost Pines Art Center in Bastrop on Sunday, May 5, 2024 from 2-4 pm. A private burial and celebration of life will be held in Ohio in June. Memorials may be given to the Morris Animal Foundation and the Bastrop County Historical Society.
