In Loving Remembrance
George Silas Burnham
“Papaw”
1942-2020
On Thursday, July 30, 2020, George Silas Burnham, age 78, of Cedar Creek Texas, was called to Heaven.
George was born in Bastrop, Texas to Dorothy B. (Thorton) and Twin Silas Burnham on March 21, 1942. He married the love of his life, Alice Joy Staudt, on March 17, 1961.
After serving his country in the United States Navy, he enjoyed a long career with LCRA. He was a hard worker; he could fix anything, and he spent his life teaching his kids and grandkids that they could do the same.
He loved to camp and did so often. The grandkids will always cherish those trips with Mamaw and Papaw. He loved nature and being on the water boating and fishing or in the mountains camping and hunting. He also enjoyed trips to Louisiana to play the slots.
George is survived by his children: Patrick Burnham; Patricia Burnham; Diana Fillman and husband, Roger; Robert Burnham and wife, Patricia; Marie Cody and fiancé, Michael Alewine; grandchildren: Crystal Morales and husband, James; Jennifer King; Stephen Fillman and wife, Tandy; Justin Fillman and wife, Raylynne; John Burnham and Travis Alewine; great-grandchildren: Dylan, Sabrina and Catherine Morales; Sarah, David and Jeremy King; Kolton Kubitz and wife, Rachel and Greyson Kubitz; Emmeline and Adelyn Fillman; sister, Ivor Lawhon and brother, Stanley Burnham and close friend, Liz Fiscus.
George is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Alice; sister, Virginia Machu and brothers: Adrian, Jack and Twin Burnham.
He lived for his family and loved with all his heart. He will be missed greatly but we find comfort in knowing he is now with loved ones he lost and missed dearly. What a beautiful reunion that must be!
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 10, 2020 at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home, 2079 Hwy 71 E. Bastrop, Texas.
Due to unfortunate circumstances of COVID-19 and the health concerns and the safety of all, a Memorial Service will take place at a later date when friends and family will be able to gather together to celebrate his life.
Together Again
A reunion occurred in heaven this week
Of the sweetest and most joyful kind
As Dad’s spirit moved beyond this earth
Released from his mortal life
And what a reunion it must have been!
A joy beyond our conceiving
When Dad met Mom in heaven again
Ending his dignified grieving
And we are certain Dad is still holding Mom’s hand
While she cherishes each moment by his side
And they’re experiencing the joy of being together again
Catching up on the time they were denied
We are confident they are also looking over us
Hoping this happiness will lessen our pain
As we contemplate the joy that they finally feel
Now that they are together again
And though we’ll miss them terribly
And will long for them with deepest grief
We are reminded that love is more powerful than death
And this knowledge gives us comfort and peace
We can still feel their love surround us
Giving us a desire to continue on
To try our best to live our lives well
In the ways they would have done
For we know this isn’t the only reunion
Someday we’ll be called back to be with them
For life can lead us to greater happiness
With God and our loved ones in heaven
So although we’ll miss our Dad profoundly
Our grief is somewhat lessened
For we are comforted knowing that he led a good life
And he and Mom are now together in heaven
