In 1964, she married Enrique Rios and moved to Wisconsin where they started a family and then later on moved to the cities of Blue Island, Peotone, Monee, and Park Forest South, Illinois. In 1981, they moved back home to Cotulla, Texas to be closer to family. Francisca also lived in the cities of Lockhart and Austin. In 2003, the family moved to Cedar Creek, Texas, where she loved doing yard work, burning wood and working outside with her husband Enrique. In 2014, they moved to Kyle, Texas due to health reasons.
Francisca was also known as” Fran” to her co-workers and friends. Her family knew her as “Pancha” or “Tia Pancha” to all the nieces and nephews. Fran worked a variety of jobs which included working in the fields as a young teen, she made parts for Remington chain saws, and parts for American Lock. She was also a PreK teachers’ aide with Cotulla ISD. In 2001, she retired from the Austin State School where she was a MHMR Spec II for 17 years.
Her most beloved joy in life was raising her four children and as her grandchildren came along, she helped care for them with all her heart and soul. Her grandchildren meant the world to her and she enjoyed every minute she got to spend with them.
Fran was an avid collector of just about anything. Mainly Barbie dolls, Cabbage Patch Dolls, and Disney videos, and/or DVD’s. One of her favorite hobbies was crocheting or quilting for her family and friends. She taught her daughters these skills because she wanted them to be able to carry on the tradition. The family would like to thank Encompass Hospice for all the wonderful care and support during this journey. Special thanks to Stacy, Hannah, Don, & Krisha for great nursing care. The only on call triage nurses that responded to her needs during the night. The nursing assistants Amy, Glynda, and Kathy for the loving personal care and conversations. Social Worker Beth, and Chaplains Rob and Remington for their spiritual and emotional support. The nursing administrator Reed for helping us understand the hospice journey and helping to answer our never-ending questions. Dr. Anna Vu for making sure that all her care was carefully coordinated and that the staff understood what mom had. We would be remised to not recognize our two providers Concepcion Gloria & Rocio Valdez for all the care they provided her. “Concha” as mom called her and Rocio were so patient, loving and caring. During the last few weeks of mom’s life they were instrumental in making sure that not only mom’s needs were met but they also checked in on us. Our family was truly blessed to have such amazing and wonderful people in our lives during the past 7.5 months. We would also like to thank Dr. Kalin Kelso who was her orthopedic surgeon, who we consider to be a part of our family. You definitely understood her and knew her very well.
