Esther Coy, a longtime resident of Bastrop, Texas, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family. She died on Tuesday, February 6, 2024. Esther was born on September 1, 1944 to parents Andres (A.J.) and Gladys Coy. Esther and her former spouse, Thomas (Tommy) Vasquez had four children—Thomas Conrad (T.C.) Vasquez (Tracey), Andrea Partida (Jeff), Anthony Vasquez (Mandy) and Marcus Vasquez (Mariah). She was adored by her eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is survived by her brother Andrew Coy (Barbara) and sister Wilma Sosa (Xavier), numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Felix Terrazas, parents Andres and Gladys Coy, and her sisters Dolores Barron and Betty Arroyo. Esther will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, her stories about family life and growing up in the “barrio” and, of course, her restaurant El Gallito. Esther retired in 2011 from the county of Bastrop and the District Attorney’s office. During her time with the county, she was known for her take charge attitude and the way she made others laugh, feel cared for and loved. She was a talented seamstress, loved her children and family, music and dancing, and, of course, her dogs.
Esther’s family would like to express their deepest gratitude toward the staff at Dell Seton Medical Center at The University of Texas at Austin, Hospice Austin’s Christopher House, and the nurses and nursing assistants at Bastrop Lost Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their loving and dignified care of their mother and grandmother.
A celebration of life service will be scheduled in the next few weeks. Please check back on this page for more information.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to following exceptional organizations who treated our mom with dignity and respect in her final days.
