Eric Shawn Lindsey came into this world as a beautiful baby with red hair and big blue eyes. He was our mother’s bicentennial baby, celebrating our country’s 200 birthday that year in 1976. This pride and love of country stamped Eric’s soul forever.
After graduating from Bastrop High School in 1995, Eric worked for the Travis County Sheriff’s Department and then spent the next 20 years as an officer with the Austin Police Department. SPO Eric Lindsey 4674. Graduated 104th Cadet Class in November, 2001. He was assigned to the H100’s, and Eric received many awards during his tenure: Honorable Driving Ribbon, Fitness Ribbon, and Master Peace Officer Ribbon. His calm and cool demeanor made him an asset to APD, allowing him to handle difficult situations with great respect and precision. The APD has lost one of its finest.
Eric counted family among his dearest blessings. He fiercely loved his wife Tanya and their son Mason, creating a home filled with love and laughter. They were his world. He extended the concept of family to include all of his Karate brothers (some of whom have been with Eric since he was seven years old). These men have helped prepare Eric to expect the unexpected—to hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. Always Be Ready. Eric was renowned for his mastery of the Art of Shorin Ryu Matsumura Karate, becoming a Nan Dan (7th Degree Black Belt). He was so strong and fast that men of all experience levels have commented on his expertise and strength: “You can’t get through to even touch him!”
Eric might have been the red, white, and blue baby, but his blood always ran maroon for his beloved Texas Aggies, following a deep family tradition to love and enjoy all things Texas A&M. His son Mason carries on the tradition, proudly sporting maroon and singing every word of the Aggie War Hymn.
Eric was a master at many crafts. He was incredibly intelligent and had a knack for being able to “figure it out.” From making the best chicken wings and ribs to tending daily to his saltwater aquarium, Eric just had a way of making everything work out.
The internal compass that guided Eric was always set to Honesty. This made him the best at giving advice, even if you were not ready to hear it. Loyalty was exemplified daily. Eric gave his ALL to all those he loved - no matter the time, day, or condition… you could count on Eric.
All of these traits made Eric the BEST you could ever ask for. Eric confessed his faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord of his life which made him the BEST father, husband, son, brother, uncle, cousin, officer, and most importantly— Child of God. It will be with our every breath that we will miss Eric. He was our rock, our constant - Our big guy with a heart of gold.
We are better today for having known and loved you.
