Elsie Colene Ross

Elsie Colene Ross, 85, of Cedar Creek, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 19th, 2024, at Spanish Oaks Assisted Living in Pflugerville, Texas.

Elsie was born in Dale, TX, to C.Y. Powell and Opal Powell on August 17th, 1939. She was the oldest of three siblings. Her formative years were spent in High Grove, where she attended school before graduating from Bastrop High School in the Class of 1957. Elsie's love for music blossomed during her time at Bastrop High, where she became an inaugural member of the marching band, showcasing her talent on the baritone saxophone.

Following her graduation, Elsie pursued her passion for beauty and attended cosmetology school, embarking on a career as a skilled beautician. However, her heart led her to a deeper calling – childcare. She dedicated many years to nurturing and guiding children, eventually becoming the director of several childcare centers throughout Bastrop before venturing to establish her own.

On June 24th, 1962, Elsie exchanged vows with the love of her life, Neal Ross. Their union was blessed with three children, and as a family, they cherished the adventures of travel across the United States. Country music serenaded their journeys, and Branson, Missouri, held a special place in their hearts. Neal and Elsie's shared passion for square dancing took them to various states, where they joyously competed and created lasting memories.

Elsie is preceded in death by her parents, whom she loved dearly; her beloved husband, Neal Ross, and her sister, Linda Brock. She is survived by her son, Kenneth Ross; daughters, Gina Castle and Holly Kinney; brother, Buddy Powell; grandson, Zachary Coronado; and granddaughters, Raymie Rojas, Harley Ross, and Aimee Bartsch.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects and celebrate Elsie's life at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home on Friday, May 24th, 2024. The viewing will be held from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, followed by the service at 3:00 pm.
