Edward Ray Barrera, of Cedar Creek, Texas, passed away on March 28, 2024 in Austin, Texas.
Ray was born in Bastrop, Texas, to Eduardo Barrera and Rebecca Valenzuela Barrera on November 13, 1951. He graduated from Abernathy High School and attended vocational school to became a welder working in Lubbock, Texas. He later settled in Cedar Creek where he had his own wood-splitting business, and remained there until his death.
Ray was an enormous dog lover and will be dearly missed by his beloved dogs. He was a man who lived life simply. He had no need for material things and lived life on his own terms.
Ray is survived by his sisters, Beatrice (Umberto) Villegas, Ofelia Salinas, Herlinda (Tom) Trieschmann, Laura Barrera, and brothers, Daniel Barrera, Joe (Thelma) Barrera, Steve Barrera, and Abel (Tamika) Barrera, Uncle Epifanio Valenzuela Jr, and 12 nieces and nephews, 22 great-nieces and great-nephews, and 12 great-great nieces and nephews.
Ray is preceded in death by his parents, Eduardo and Rebecca Barrera, and his long time partner, Mary Garton.
Visitation and Rosary will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 4th followed by a funeral mass at 2:00 p.m. at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home, 2079 Hwy. 71 East, Bastrop, Texas. Burial will follow at the family cemetery in Cedar Creek.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite animal shelter or plant a tree in his name.
