Donald Ray Cowan, 61 passed away Thursday, February 20, 2020, at his home in Cedar Creek, TX. He was born November 28, 1958, at the Air Force Base in England to Donnie Ray and Almerie Sue (Greeson) Cowan.
He attended schools in North Carolina and Leander, TX. At the age of 18 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After basic training he was honorably discharged so he could help care for his daughter.
He spent several years working in the oil fields across the state of Texas. After becoming disabled, he could be found riding his lawnmower through the neighborhood. He enjoyed the outdoors and would mow grass and share peaches with his neighbors. He liked to hunt, fish, barbeque brisket, and play dominoes.
Donald was preceded in death by his father, Donnie Ray Cowan; and a sister, Debbie Sue Johnson.
Survivors are a daughter, Sally Gossett and husband Casey of Richland Springs; a son, Devin Cowan and wife Corrie of Pennsylvania; two brothers, Carroll Cowan and wife Sandra of Spicewood, James Cowan of Smithville; one sister, Sharon Schmidt of Cedar Creek; five grandchildren, Jordan Gossett, Jacey Gossett, Chase Gossett, Lorelei Cowan, and Autumn Cowan; and a best friend Winston Hunt.
Visitation will be held, on February 24 from 5-7 pm, at Providence Funeral Home in Bastrop and Graveside Services will be February 25 at 1:00 pm. Pastor John Lawrence will officiate. Burial will be at Preece Cemetery located at Vaught Ranch Road & 2222 in Austin, TX.
