Dena Sue Toungate

Dena Sue Toungate, 71, of Cedar Creek, TX, passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 in Cedar Creek, TX.

Dena Sue Toungate (Sue) was born in Alice, TX to Peggy Eloise Franks and Bruce Eugene Franks, Sr on April 7, 1952. She was a graduate of the Lockhart High School Class of 1970. She married Billy Ray Toungate on February 6, 1971. Though this relationship ended, they had 2 children together and remained friends afterwards.

Sue previously worked at Chamber’s Grocery in Luling, TX and then devoted her time to being a housewife, loving mom and childcare provider. She was a member of Clearfork Baptist Church.

Sue loved spending time with her daughters, grandchildren, joking with her son-in-law and spending time with her pets. She loved back roading with her daughter Amy and grandchildren, fishing, crocheting, doing puzzles, playing Mahjong, Solitaire, Dominoes and Scrabble, working puzzle books, cooking, and baking. When her rheumatoid arthritis didn’t allow her to enjoy those things, she enjoyed watching marathons of Heartland, Big Brother and especially Yellowstone to see her crush, Rip. She also had a love for music and spoke fondly of singing in her younger days with her friend Rodney and singing in the church choir. Her children have memories of her playing the guitar and singing when they were younger. Some of her favorite singers were Elvis Presley, Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn, Reba McEntire and The Judds.

Sue is survived by her Daughter Tracy Hoffman and husband Johny, Granddaughter Brianna Hoffman and soon to be Great-Grandson Zayden; Daughter Amy Toungate and ex Donald Hoffman, Granddaughters Rebecca Toungate-Hoffman, Melanie Toungate-Hoffman and Miranda Toungate-Hoffman; Brother Bruce E. Franks, Jr (Butch) and wife Peggy; Step-Siblings Michael (Bud), Thelma (Shortie) and Donnie, Aunts Carol Jean Irvin, Anna Lister Woodward and Debby Parsons and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

Sue is preceded in death by her Father, Bruce Eugene Franks, Sr, Mother, Peggy Eloise Franks and Step-Sister Linda Belcher.

Visitation will be 5 pm to 8 pm Thursday, July 6, 2023 at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home, 2079 Highway 71 East, Bastrop, Texas 78602.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 7, 2023 at Clearfork Baptist Church, 461 Clearfork Road, Lockhart, Texas 78644. Burial will follow at Clearfork Cemetery.

A BBQ meal sponsored by Son Rise Baptist Church will be provided for Sue’s family and friends at the McMahan Community Center located at 6022 FM 713, McMahan, Texas 78616. The doors will be open at 9:00 a.m. for those wishing to drop off a side dish or dessert.

The family would like to thank Dr. Krystal DeLeon and her staff and the staff of Enhabit Home Health Care for the excellent care and support Sue received in the past year. They also wish to thank everyone that has reached out to them for their kind words and help during this difficult time.
