Delmar (Del) Leidy, 76, of Cedar Creek passed away October 18, 2024 in Bastrop. Del was born in Aransas Pass, Texas to Captain Delmar Leidy Sr. and Jean Blaylock Leidy on November 26, 1947. He married Kaye Terry on April 30,1976 in Austin. He was a graduate of Texas State University and did graduate work at the University of Texas. Except for a few childhood years and his military service, he lived his entire life in Texas. He worked as a counselor to juvenile delinquent boys at Pegasus Schools, which gave him the opportunity to be a surrogate dad, setting his charges on the path to a productive life. He was an Army veteran, serving in Vietnam as radio operator. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Army Commendation Medal. Del enjoyed history, particularly military history. And UT football. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Melanie “Smokie” Dickerson, and daughter Heather Anne Leidy. Del is survived by his wife of 48 years, a sister, Greta Weaver of Johnson City, and numerous nieces and nephews. Rosary will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 25 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockne, followed by Mass at 10:30, Fr. George Joseph presiding. Burial will follow at Sacred Cemetery with military honor guard. In lieu of flowers, Del would prefer a donation to International Fellowship of Christians and Jews. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the nurses and personnel at Windsor Nursing Home in Bastrop.
