Deena Marie Zimmerhanzel, 55, of Bastrop, Texas, passed away on February 17, 2021 in her residence in Bastrop, Texas.

Deena was born in Bastrop, Texas to Quinton and Virginia Geltmeier on November 24, 1965. She went to school in Bastrop, Texas, and graduated from Bastrop High School in 1984. She received her bachelor’s degree from Southwest Texas University.


Deena worked as an office manager for Texas State Directory and for Coore & Crenshaw for over 35 years. She was involved in various charity organizations, including the American Heart Association, the Austin Humane Society and the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Bastrop, Fayette and Lee Counties. She also never turned down an opportunity to sell raffle tickets for any charity that asked her to!


Deena enjoyed many things in life, biggest of which was helping others. She also enjoyed spending time in Port Aransas, letting her brothers know her Pittsburg Steelers had won six Super Bowls, visiting Las Vegas to play slot machines and shop the M&M retail store, attending Texas Longhorn football games, working on puzzles, having a glass of white wine with you, and watching her favorite movie ‘O Brother, Where Art Thou?’ over and over and over again.


Deena is survived by her husband A.J. Zimmerhanzel, her stepsons Taner and Bailey Zimmerhanzel, her brother Randy Geltmeier and his wife Beverly, her brother Keith Geltmeier, her stepmom Jessie Geltmeier, and numerous nieces and nephews.


Deena is preceded in death by her father Quinton Geltmeier, her mother Virginia Odle, and her stepfather Charles Odle.


A public viewing will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 22, at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home. On Tuesday, February 23, visitation with family will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., followed by a Rosary from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., and concluded with a funeral service from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockne, Texas. https://youtu.be/OcFkygc1dG4

Memorials may be given to the Austin Humane Society, the Bastrop Food Pantry, the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Bastrop, Fayette and Lee Counties, and the Alzheimer's Association Capital of Texas Chapter.
