Deborah Mae Hakkesteeg

Deborah "Debbie” (Andrus) Hakkesteeg, age 66, went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 1, 2024, at the Dowdy home in Bastrop, Texas. She was born June 6, 1958, in Jackson, Michigan. She was the beloved daughter of Wayne Reuel and Roxabelle “Roxie” Mae (Clark) Andrus. Debbie married Frans Hakkesteeg in Liverpool, UK on January 22, 2019. A church wedding with family and friends occurred at Rosanky Baptist Church, Rosanky, Texas on January 19, 2020. She was a church and Praise Team member at Rosanky Baptist Church for many years.

Debbie loved her Lord Jesus Christ first, then her family and church family. She never hesitated to share her strong faith and testimony for her Jesus to anyone. Sharing her talents, music, crafts, cooking, and her love for people gave her great joy. She graduated in 1976, from Grass Lake High School, Grass Lake, Michigan. Her many accomplishments included being a Firefighter at NASA, Virginia, an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) at NASA, Virginia, a Volunteer firefighter with the Smithville, Texas, Fire Department for 10 years, and a National Bookkeeping Accreditation in 2022.

The family wants to gratefully thank the Traditions Health and Hospice staff from Round Rock, Texas, for all their sincere compassionate care during the last months of cancer.

Debbie is survived by Frans Hakkesteeg, her husband of 5 years; son, Joseph Bailey of Thornton, Colorado; daughter, Karen Thornton of Oak Hill, Virginia; sister, Judy Leib of Streator, Illinois; sister, Rebecca Dowdy (Ken Dowdy) of Bastrop, Texas; and her uncle, Arlee Andrus (Jo Andrus) of Lansing, Michigan. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Ariaantje Hakkesteeg-Verheij of Holland; sister-in-law, Elly Hakkesteeg, (Adrie Dijkhuizen) of Holland; sister-in-law, Ria Hakkesteeg of Holland; son-in-law, Ross Hakkesteeg of the UK; daughter-in-law, Chloe Hakkesteeg, (Alex Escher); daughter-in-law, Victoria Hakkesteeg, 15 grandchildren, many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Roxie Andrus, aunts, uncles, and grandparents.

Debbie’s Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Rosanky Baptist Church, 2160 FM 535, Rosanky, TX 78953.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Audio/Visual Ministry of Rosanky Baptist Church.
