Cruz V. Martinez

February 6, 1949 — February 8, 2025

Bastrop

Cruz V. Martinez, a talented painter of both commercial and residential masterpieces, left this world on February 8, 2025, after courageously battling illness. Born on February 6, 1949, in the vibrant town of San Jose de Aura, Mexico, Cruz embodied a spirit of resilience and creativity that touched all who had the privilege of knowing him.

With a brush in hand, Cruz painted not only walls but also memories, infusing color into the lives of many throughout his career. His artistry resonated deeply in the homes and spaces he adorned, transforming everyday environments into realms of beauty and warmth. The vibrancy of his work mirrored the joy he found in life, a testament to his enduring passion.

Cruz’s journey brought him to Bastrop, Texas, where he built a loving family and cultivated lasting relationships. He leaves behind a legacy of love and creativity, cherished by his beloved children: Rosa Ofelia Monzon and her husband Julio Cesar; Antonio Fonseca and his wife Laura; Jesus Martinez; Simona Pacheco, along with her husband Mario Pacheco; Cruz Marie Mercado and her husband Elijah Vincente. The warmth of his spirit continues in the laughter and love shared by his grandchildren: Maria, Victor, Anna Margarita, Julio, Iris, Estoben, Melinda, Savannah, Fernanda, Antonio, Lily Alex, Azariah, Angelina, and Aubree. In addition to his great grandchildren: Victor Jr., Alana, DJ, and Renee. He will also be remembered by his siblings, Jesus Martinez, and Gloria I. Martinez.

Though he is mourned deeply, Cruz is reunited in eternal rest with those who preceded him, including his father, Jesus Martinez-Hernandez, and his mother, Josefa Vasquez Ortega; his loving wife, Margaret; and his siblings, Ofelia, Jose, Eudelia, Apolinar, and Enedelia. Their memories serve as both solace and inspiration, reminding us of the bonds that transcend this earthly realm.

A visitation will take place at the Bastrop Providence Funeral Home on February 13, 2025, starting at 4:00 PM, followed by a Rosary at 7:00 PM. The following day, a Mass will be held at Ascension Catholic Church in Bastrop at 11:00 AM. Cruz's final journey will lay him to rest at Alta Vista Cemetery. On this day we are celebrating a life well-lived, rich with colors both seen and felt.

As we remember Cruz V. Martinez, let us carry forward his spirit—a spirit defined by creativity, resilience, and love, forever emblazoned in our hearts and the vibrant strokes of his artistry.
