Carol Sue Nichols

December 23, 1958 — November 30, 2024

Carol Sue Nichols, 65, of Bastrop, Texas passed away peacefully on November 30, 2024, in Smithville, Texas surrounded by her family.

Carol was born in Palestine, Texas to Susie Mae Jackson and Jack Nichols on December 23, 1958.

She graduated from Palestine High School where she exceled in track and field, setting many High Jump state records. She attended Stephen F Austin University and transferred to Huston-Tillotson University where she obtained her degree in kinesiology. After graduating college, she was a Coach/Teacher in East Austin for a short period of time at Pearce Middle School and then went into the Human Resources field for the State of Texas. She worked in Human Resources for the State of Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) for over 20 years before retiring. She was married for over 20 years to Russell “Rusty” Forrester helping run their custom cabinet business, Forrester Wood Products.

Her hobbies included being a great mother, being a wonderful grandma “Nana”, coaching her children’s sports teams, spending time with family and her dogs and cats. She also spent her time fishing, gardening, harvesting her own fruits and vegetables (Carol was organic before organic was cool), going to casinos, traveling, cruises, and just enjoying life.

She was an exceptional woman and human being with a kind spirit, a vibrant force of nature, an advocate of the voiceless, and full of wisdom. Carol enjoyed seeing different aspects of life nurture and grow and was full of laughter and love. Carol could always find at least one good thing about any person no matter who they were. She will be missed by all who knew her and those lives she touched.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Premier Family Physicians Bastrop, Texas Oncology, Collage Home Health Therapy, Dell Seton Neurology Brain and Spine, Hospice Austin, New Century Hospice, Eyes of Angels for taking such good care of Carol and her family during the last two years and JOL Hospice for the last few months and her last days.

Carol will be lovingly remembered by her two children, Nicole Forrester-Macy (Ron Macy) and Jarod Forrester; and grandchildren, Brody Macy and Dylan Macy. She was preceded in death by her parents, Susie Mae Jackson and Jack Nichols; brothers, Johnnie McKissic and Jack Nichols Jr; aunts and uncles, Myrtle Clewis, Verdie Jackson, Boyd Jackson, Rosco Jackson, Leola Austin and Orell Austin.
