In the early morning hours of August 11th, 2023, Carol Sue “Susie” Meuth peacefully departed from this world after a difficult and hard-fought battle with vascular dementia. Susie was a remarkable individual whose journey began on November 7, 1945, in Lampasas, Texas. Born to Charles Otto Wade and Edell Sylvester Wade, Susie spent many long hours tending to the family farm and picking cotton, instilling in her an iron-forged work ethic that few could hope to match. Not long after graduating in 1964, Susie ventured to Austin and received her certification in data transcribing, where she worked as a keypunch operator for the Texas State Comptroller. She was a member of the a cappella group, The Noteables, and lived at the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) where she met her very best friend, Judy Evanicky Codenys. Judy introduced Susie to her future husband, Floyd. Despite a very disappointing blind date, where Susie was completely unimpressed with Floyd’s wrinkled white t-shirt, green jeans, and beer in hand, she soon found herself enamored with this devastatingly handsome fellow who actually cleaned up quite nicely. Susie became Mrs. Floyd Joseph Meuth on March 27 in the spring of 1971 when they exchanged vows at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. They would soon have three precious daughters, Julie Carol, Sara “Sally” Jane, and Rebekah Suzanne. Susie was an excellent, devoted, stay-at-home mom who worked tirelessly raising her children, while being very involved in her children’s school and other activities. Several years down the road, Susie started her career in the grocery business when she began working at “Big Long’s” and stayed on through the years as it changed hands and became Dunn’s IGA and then Bastrop IGA. She then went on to work for H.E.B. for the next 30 years. Susie was eager to learn the roles and responsibilities of as many departments as possible. As an assistant store manager, she was lovingly, or maybe not so lovingly, known as “The Sarge.” She meant business when it came to work. Susie played an integral role in the implementation of H.E.B.’s Store Replenishment System. She loved travelling the state of Texas training H.E.B. partners on this new and important system and making new friends along the way. She retired earlier than she wanted because of medical issues, and she truly missed her work as an H.E.B. partner. On December 28, 1995, Susie’s husband, Floyd, passed away after a valiant battle with multiple myeloma. He was only 54. Her heart was completely shattered, and she truly never stopped grieving his passing. Soon after that loss came a turning of the page in Susie’s life. She was blessed with her life’s greatest gifts: four handsome grandsons Drake Adam, Drew Joseph, Stone Lennox, and Luke Arthur. She was a loving, dedicated, supportive grandma who hosted magical sleepovers with tents in her living room, followed by midnight chocolate milk and pancakes for breakfast. Susie’s passions were diverse. She had a love for music, sewing, crocheting, and baking. She had a creative spirit, a quick witted and hilarious sense of humor, and a compassionate heart. Susie’s creativity was multi dynamic, manifesting itself through her thoughtful handmade birthday decorations, her wonderfully personal and unique gifts (particularly her white elephant gifts), and her specially planned back-to-school adventures for her grandsons. Her sense of humor and ability to crack a joke never seemed to wane, even just days before her passing. Susie is survived by her daughters and their husbands: Julie and Russell Zoch, Sara and Scott Sutherland, and Rebekah and Peter Jones; grandsons Drake, Drew, Stone, and Luke; three sisters, two brothers, and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends who she loved dearly, and they loved her. She is preceded in death by the love of her life, Floyd, her parents, her beloved big brother James Edwin “Bud” Wade, brothers-in-law Gene Meuth and Victor Meuth, sister-in-law Lyndell Meuth, and last but certainly not least, her beloved furry child, Karloff. Visitation will be from 4:00pm – 7:00pm on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at Bastrop Providence Funeral home in Bastrop, TX. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am, Friday, August 18, 2023, also at Bastrop Providence funeral home. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery in Rockne, TX. Those attending the graveside service are encouraged to bring an umbrella to help with the extreme heat. The graveside service will be kept to a minimum for the health and safety of those attending. The family is quite certain Susie would understand!
