Carl Eugene Stewart

Carl E. Stewart, 93, of Bastrop, Texas died at 6:45 a.m. Friday, April 26th, 2024, at St. David’s South Medical Center in Austin, Texas. He was born November 20th 1930 in Washington, Pennsylvania, a son of Carl Marquis and Mary Elizabeth Stewart.

Carl grew up farming, helping his father in his Harvester business on baling and threshing days and tending to their crops and animals at home. This is where he got his hard work ethic that served him well throughout his life. After graduating from High School and 2 years at the University of Pittsburgh, Carl joined the USAF as a MP. In 1951 while stationed in England; Carl married Mary Elizabeth Finlay on January 23, 1956. Five kids and 4 duty stations later he chose Austin, Texas as his last duty station. Carl retired in 1971 after a tour in Vietnam and a Drill instructor assignment. Later Carl took a job as a Federal Police officer and retired again after 22 years of service in 1996. Following his second retirement they moved and made a home in Bastrop, TX. Although he was no longer working you’d still find him outside making his wife’s vision come to life. Whether it was a garden, installing a pool, or building a deck Carl always kept busy. Carl and Mary dreamed of traveling to all 50 states in the US, nearly reaching their goal.

Carl is survived by, A son: Perry E. Stewart of Bastrop, TX and two daughters, Donna E. Montgomery of Bastrop ,TX, and Lisa E. Chromcak of Austin, TX, 7 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Carl was preceded in death by his mother and father, all his brothers and sisters, his wife Mary E. Stewart , Son Kevin E. Stewart, and Daughter Gail E. (Stewart) Trissler.

Funeral services will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:15 PM, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, Texas 78209, Shelter 3.
