Brandon O'Neal Yarbrough

January 3, 1987 — April 12, 2019

Brandon Yarbrough was born in Humble, Texas in 1987. He attended school in Giddings, Texas, where he was a high school football standout. He was well respected among his teachers and peers and was always seen as a respectful and kind-hearted young man. Brandon graduated from Elgin High School and made the decision to serve his country as a member of the United States Air Force. Brandon attended basic training at Lackland Air Force Base and upon graduation, he served as a military police officer in the U.S. Air Force Security Forces. Brandon proudly served his country from 2005-2009 and was a proud Air Force veteran.

Brandon returned to civilian life but wanted to continue serving the public. He completed the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Correctional Officer Training Academy. Upon graduation, he served as an officer at TDCJ units in Navasota, Tulia, and Austin. Brandon loved being a correctional officer. He spoke highly of his co-workers and maintained close relationships with many of them after leaving TDCJ.

Brandon wanted to become a probation officer so he enrolled in the criminal justice program at Houston- Tillotson University in Austin. He continued to work as a security guard during the night while attending college during the day. Brandon had a servant’s heart and it brought him great joy to be of service to another. His day wasn’t complete until he could do something to make someone’s life easier.

Brandon had a deep and special love for his family and friends. He never missed an opportunity to attend a family gathering. He would regularly travel to Giddings, Austin, Cleveland, Nacogdoches, and Dallas just to spend time with those he loved. Brandon was always ready to play a game of dominoes or cards. He did not care if he won or lost because for him time with family and friends was what mattered most.

Brandon had a contagious laugh and a smile that was as bright as the sun. He was a special young man who put the needs and concerns of others above his own. He called and texted friends and family members every day just to see how they were doing. He loved hard and cared deeply. Brandon went to be with our Lord on April 12, 2019, at the age of 32. He is loved and will be missed by many.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Brandon Yarbrough Peacemaker Scholarship Fund. The fund has been set up in his honor to sponsor a candidate seeking to join a police academy. Brandon believed that all law enforcement officers should be peace officers or officers of peace. Sponsoring a candidate who shares the same belief is a perfect way to honor Brandon, the law enforcement community, and society. “Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God.” – Matthew 5:9.
