Betty Jean King

Betty Jean King, of Bastrop, passed away on May 19, 2022, in Smithville, TX.

Betty was born in Austin, TX to Albert and Medora Moreland on Oct. 30, 1940, along with her twin Bessie. She belonged to a large loving family with 6 sisters and 2 brothers. She went to Austin High School and graduated Class of ’59.  She married Bobby King on Jan. 20, 1962, in her parent’s home in Austin, TX. She was with Bobby for 41 years until his passing in 2002. Bobby was also from a large loving family.

Betty’s main job was raising her family.  When that was done, she took a job with Bastrop Independent School District as a cafeteria worker. She was the lunch lady that everyone loved. Especially her grandchildren. She worked for BISD for 11 years.

She enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved the trips she made with her sisters.

Betty is survived by her children; Joy Paxton (Tommy) of Smithville, Bobby King (Lois) of Irving, Bill King (Julie) of Cedar Creek, Jo Ann King of San Marcos, Jimmy King (Michelle) of Fredericksburg, VA, Dollie King of Bastrop.  Her sisters Alberta Meredith of Manor, Dorothy Pittman of Austin, Pearl Ann Boyer of Lampasas, and Marion Briones of Kyle. She was a loving Granny to 22 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Medora Moreland. Her husband, Bobby King. Her sons, Michael and Mike King. Her granddaughter Audrey King. Her sisters Mamie Boyer and Bessie Teague and her brothers Thomas Moreland and Wesley Moreland.

Pallbearers will be Okas King, Charlie King, Tommy King, David King, Danny King, and Kenny King.

Visitation will be 5 pm to 7 pm Thursday, May 26, 2022, at Bastrop Providence, 2079 Hwy 71 East, Bastrop, TX.

Funeral services will be held 10 am Friday, May 27, 2022, at Bastrop Providence, 2079 Hwy 71 East, Bastrop, TX. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, McDade, TX
