Benjamin Magee Looney, 90, of Giddings, TX, passed away on February 11, 2023 at his home.
Benjamin was born in Converse Louisiana to Robert Cleveland Looney and Mattie Flossie Magee on March 15, 1932. He went to high school in Converse, Louisiana where he was an all-state basketball player. He married his high school sweetheart Janet Carol Weems in 1953. He graduated from University of Houston.
He worked as a steel inspector for Armco Steel in Houston for more than 25 years. He was a veteran of the Korean war and served in the Army.
He enjoyed gardening and became involved in the master gardening program for several years. He later moved to Smithville area and enjoyed tending and taking care of the cows and country life. He always enjoyed watching his beloved “Coogs” University of Houston basketball games.
Benjamin is survived by children Regina King, Cindy Bump and Tanya Nielsen (Jared). Grandchildren: Jan O’Connell, (Pat), Benjamin King (Meg) Jennifer Orozco (Saul), Christopher Hill (Monica) and Braden Bump, Mary Nielsen (David) and Sarah Nielsen. Great-grandchildren: Madelyn O’Connell, JP O’Connell, Ben King, Elizabeth King, Joeseph King, Matthew King, Graceanna King, Pierce Govender, Anna Orozco, Issa Hill, Willow Alvarado.
Benjamin is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Janet Looney. His parents and brother Robert Cleveland Looney, Jr MD and Sister Agnes Lucille Hoffman.
A private ceremony will be held later to spread his ashes with Mom’s ashes.
Memorials may be given to Wounded Warriors Association .
